In the archways beneath House of Vans London, the lyric has found a new resonance with the launch of the Polyphonic Playground.

It’s an interactive installation which features all the familiar elements of a playground – swings, slides, climbing frames and so on – but with sound triggers built in.

Essentially, the whole structure behaves like a musical instrument, with users creating their own soundtrack by stepping, sliding and swinging through it.

It’s low on tech, but high in play value, giving fans of the brand a space in which to behave like big kids once again. (But play nicely, and don’t push your brother off the slide).

While it’s in place, there are plans to host performances by “proper” musicians, giving them the opportunity to create new soundscapes live, using the environment itself. Part Coldplay, part soft play, kind of…
